Recently I took a Computer in from a client
15 minutes before closing time on a Saturday evening. Since it was late in the
afternoon I told the client I would work on it first thing Monday morning, I left the computer at my front door and went of.f to enjoy what was left of the weekend with my Wife and Daughter.
. My shop is located at the back of my house and is
pretty isolated, I normally place new repair jobs in the shop until I can get to the, but as I stated earlier it was late and I had no second thoughts about leaving the PC where it was until I could get to it on Monday.
Disaster!!!! I awake Monday morning to the sounds of screams coming from the
kitchen downstairs. Not knowing what was going on I ran downstairs to find y wife and daughter in a panic, there are cockroaches
swarming all over the kitchen. After stomping on the ones I could find, I took
the clients PC outdoors and opened the case. As expected there were dead cockroach
remains and a few live ones trying to make a break for it. I could not use bug
spray to kill the few live ones, but had a can of compressed air that did the
job quite nicely. I then made an emergency call to the "Orkin man" to come and cleanse my home.
Next I had to remove every component from the cabinet and blast away some more with
the compressed air. Then I went on-line to find an exterminator to restore
peace and sanity to my home. I had almost forgotten why the client brought the
PC in to be fixed. They said the PC was shutting off (hmmmm wonder why). After
cleaning the machine I discovered that it was also low on ram, so I popped in a
couple of 128mb ram chips, fixed a few other odd problems and closed up the
machine.
Sadly Insects can be a problem in some homes, Most tech company's (firedog, Geek
squad) on discovering that your PC is infested will simply place the machine in
a bag and return it too you un fixed. At computer pro 4 hire if you know you
have an infestation, let us know and we will clean the PC for you at a cost of
$30 and then give you an estimate on anything else you need done to get your PC
back into shape.
